HOMEGROWN DOODLE PUPPIES
Q: What size Doodles do you breed?
A: We breed miniature Doodles. As with any designer breed, sizes vary. We have come to find that most of our mini Doodles are usually between 30 - 40 pounds.
Q: Can you explain the different generations?
A: We breed primarily F1 and F1B.
F1 - A first generation cross
When you cross two different breeds, the mix is said to be a "first generation cross". This is denoted by F1. Puppies that are a result of a first generation cross have 50 percent of each parent breed's genes. Because you are crossing two different breeds, there is virtually no chance of inbreeding. The puppies are thought to have better genetics and a higher fitness level, commonly referred to as "hybrid vigor". These puppies will be light to non-shedding and are usually acceptable for people with mild allergies. Their coats tend to be wavy or have a slight curl.
F1B - A first generation cross back
Breeding a first generation (F1) dog with one of the original breeds is referred to as an F1B. In Doodles, the primary reason to breed an F1B is to have a dog that is non-shedding and has the highest allergy tolerance. Therefore, a cross back is nearly always done with the poodle. The resulting puppies will be 75 percent poodle and 25 percent other parent's original breed. Their coats tend to be more wavy and have tighter curls than the F1.
Q: What should I do before my puppy comes home?
A: Be prepared!
Here are a few things we suggest:
-
Have a crate, collar, leash and harness
-
Talk to your vet about a high-protein puppy food that they recommend
-
Puppies chew on things. We suggest having a stash of toys to keep your puppy occupied - your shoes will thank you later.
-
Have a plan in place to socialize your pup. This could be anything from taking them to a dog park or a trip to a local pet store.
-
We also highly recommend enrolling your puppy in a training class.
Q: Do your puppies come with a health guarantee?
A: We are proud of our reputation of breeding healthy and happy puppies. All of our parent dogs are OFA certified at the appropriate age. Currently, our parent dogs are in the process of genetic testing using Embark. We are so confident in the health and lineage of our puppies that we offer a one-year genetic health guarantee.
If your puppy is found to have life threatening, crippling and/or disabling congenital health defects, we will replace your puppy free of charge.
All of our puppies come with a health certificate from our vet. It is recommended that you visit your vet within three to five days of bringing them home. Our puppies will be up-to-date with booster shots, de-wormed, dewclaws removed and a microchip ready for your registration.
We do not guarantee size or color.
Q: Is it important to train my puppy?
A: We find that most of our puppies are almost housebroken when you take them home. They have watched their mommas leave the house and go outside to potty since they have been born. This does require some proactivity on your part. Approximately 30 minutes after the puppy eats, take him/her outside and let them know it's time to potty. Once they potty, bring them inside and give them plenty of praise. The same goes for a play session. Approximately 30 minutes after you've been playing, take him/her outside and let them know it's time to potty.
Puppies thrive in an environment where there are rules and boundaries set for them - they live to please their owners. Setting rules and training them is not only helpful to you as the owner, but also makes your puppy happy.
Q: Is a deposit required when purchasing a puppy?
A: We require a $300, non-refundable, deposit in order to insure a spot on our waiting list or to purchase a puppy once a litter is born.
